April showers bring Spring flowers. Unfortunately they also bring wet basements. Much of this is due to faulty sump pumps.
To test your sump pump, you can attach a garden house to the drain valve of your water heater and fill you sump pump vault until your pump cycles several times. This will also help flush your water heater.
It is also a good time to think about a battery back-up sump pump, especially if you have a finished basement.
Did you know that almost all Homeowner Policies give a discount when given proof that a back up sump pump has been installed in your home?
Now is also the time to test your outside hose valves. Turn them on and go into your basement or your crawlspace to make sure they are not leaking. If they froze over the winter they will not leak until they are turned on from the outside.
Last, we recommend that each homeowner check the underground pipes from your downspouts to make sure they are not clogged. If you need assistance we can check them for you, clear out any clogs and even run a camera through the downspout system.
Please let us know if we can be of assistance with any of your plumbing needs.
Sincerely,
The Amanda Plumbing Team
