Well it appears that spring is on its way.
However, I am not putting my snow blower away
just yet. This is a good time of the year to
start checking several things.

- Get a hose and run water in your
sump pump vault. Check that your pump kicks
on and let it pump and stop 3 or 4 times.
Also make sure the water is getting to where
it supposed to be discharging. I like to
hook my hose to my water heater drain faucet
so that I am flushing my water heater at the
same time.

- Inspect your gutters and downspout
drains for proper drainage and make sure
there is no damage from wind or ice. It is
best to use a hose to check if each downspout
is working properly.

- Check for sink holes in your yard.
It could be an indication of a broken or
separated drain, especially near where your
downspout goes into the ground.

- I always change my furnace filters
every 60 days or so. I do mine on odd number
months.

- Many of you will be hooking up your
hoses to the outside faucets for washing cars
and various other things over the next month.
If you left your hose hooked up over the
winter, there is a good chance that your
outside faucet froze and burst. This will not
show or leak until you turn it on. Once you
turn it on, have someone in the basement or
crawlspace look to see if it’s leaking after
it is turned on.

- Get out and get the salt off your
cars and trucks, don’t hesitate to lie down
and get underneath!

If you have any questions about how to check
your drain or want us to do it for you then
please give our friendly office staff a call.

Amanda Plumbing has just purchased a new
Bobcat Mini Excavator so we can expand our

It’s hard to believe 2012 is here and if you are
like me, you will spend the first couple of weeks
dating everything 2011. I have a few tips I want
to share, as I may have shared some last month, to
get you through the upcoming cold months: Be sure
to unhook all of your outside hoses. When snow
plows come around, be sure to clear your downspout
drain holes at the curb side as soon as possible.
Make sure all plumbing that is susceptible to
freezing weather is protected or drained and shut
off for the winter. Be sure to check your clothes
dryer discharge vent to ensure it doesn’t freeze
shut. Hint, if your dryer is taking much longer to
dry a load, you should check it.

Here are some fun facts about the great and ever
underestimated solution of vinegar.
- Remove stubborn stains from furniture
upholstery and clothes, apply white vinegar
directly to the stain, then wash as directed by
the manufacture.
- Kill unwanted grass by pouring vinegar in
crevices and between cracks.
- Relieve itching by using a cotton ball to dab
vinegar on bug bites.
- Prevent ice from forming on your car windshield
overnight by coating the window with a solution of
3 parts white or cider vinegar to one part water.

Amanda Plumbing had its annual holiday party
December 10th. It was a pleasure to see our hard
working men and women let their hair down and
enjoy themselves. It was a time to reward all of
them for their extremely hard work throughout the
year.

We are getting closer to going online with our
new dispatching software, which hopefully will
keep our customers on the phone less time and make
our operation more efficient.
We look forward to another great year with the
Amanda Plumbing Family and look forward to the
next time we can help you in any way.

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

With 2011 drawing to a close and the holidays
quickly approaching we would like to take this
opportunity to say we are thankful to have you as
our customer. And, a special thanks to those that
thought highly enough about our service to
recommend us to their friends and relatives. We
strive to provide exceptional service and 100%
customer satisfaction every time we have the
pleasure to serve you.

The People In Need (PIN) toy drive held at Roop
Brothers was a great success. The toys collected
will benefit local children and families who are
less fortunate. Thanks to everyone who
contributed.

Amanda Plumbing is starting its 17th year in
business and with that comes a new automated
dispatch system that will allow us to serve you
faster and better. Please be patient as there
will be a few bumps along the road, but we will
maintain our high service standards.

With winter sneaking up on us, please double
check to make sure you disconnect your hoses from
outside faucets. If the hose is left connect it
could cause the otherwise freeze proof faucet to
freeze and burst. This could result in a high
water bill and a flooded basement.

The snow will be here soon which can add some
additional complications for those of with sump
pump drain holes at the curb. The snow plows and
freezing temperatures can cause these drain holes
to become clogged and prevent the sump pump from
working correctly. We recommend you check your
drain and sump pump operation frequently during
the winter months.

If you use heat tapes to keep pipes from
freezing, make sure they are plugged in and
working properly. Also, if you live in a mobile
home, make sure your skirting is attached and
secure from wind, as wind contributes to freezing.

The Amanda Plumbing Family would like to wish you
and your family a safe and happy holiday!

Well October has come and gone, it seems rather
quickly. November to me always marks the start of
the holiday season. Time to start hanging
decorations and of course the deer stands.
Spending the time to figure out where that holiday
wreath may look best, I spend that time scouting
for the right buck!

It seems that temperatures are dropping down
below freezing a little early this year. For those
of you that need to get things winterized, there
isn’t much time left. So give our friendly staff a
call and schedule those winterizations.

Please remember to unhook your outside water
hoses from the hose valve, as they will not drain
down properly and could cause freezing and
bursting. When the temperatures drop so
dramatically like they have, those hose valves
become very vulnerable. With the temperatures
rising and falling between day and night, that
could cause your foundations to shift . It could
also cause water and sewer lines to break.

Also older hot water heaters will start leaking
due to the temperature changes. I would venture to
say it won’t be long before snow starts to fall.
Remember to keep curb holes clears for your rain
drains out to the street.

Winter months slow down slightly for us plumbers,
it’s a great time to think about replacing old
kitchen and bathroom faucets and doing some of
those little projects you have been putting off.
Remember, that with all new lavatory bath faucets,
comes a new pop up drain assembly.
We carry a nice selection of Delta and Gerber
solid brass faucets, all with a lifetime warranty
or if you find something you like in another
store, we would be happy to install your faucets
or fixtures for you.

The Amanda Plumbing Family would like to wish all
of our loyal customers a safe and Happy
Thanksgiving!

I hope many of you made it out to the All Horse

It was a little wet but once it started it turned out
great. Amanda Plumbing is a proud sponsor of the
All Horse Parade, it is 1 of 2 parades in the
nation each year of its kind.

Also September 11th was our nations anniversary of
the Twin Towers. Being a retired United States
Marine and many prior military service employees
here at Amanda Plumbing, we prayed for those who
lost their lives and their families.

I would like to touch a little bit about water
heaters this month. Are you prepared to deal with
a leaking water heater which in turn could cause a
flooded basement? With the extreme temperature
fluctuations in day and night temperatures we
start experiencing in September and October, we
see a lot of water heaters start leaking or just
blow out. In turn that causes a lot of flooding.
The average life expectancy of a water heater is
10.5 years in Ohio. If you don’t know how old
your water heater is, you can get the model
number and serial number off of the heater and
call it in to our office. We will cross reference
the information and find out. A new water heater
not only gives you piece of mind, but increases
your homes efficiency and lowers you monthly
utility costs. Our friendly office staff would be
happy to quote you a price to install a new
Bradford White high efficiency water heater in
either a gas or electric model.

We wish all of our loyal customers a safe and
Happy Halloween.

September has arrived already and when I think of September, I immediately think about The Delaware Horse Parade and The Little Brown Jug coming up for the county Fair. We have a site on the east side of the track each year and would like to invite all of our loyal customers to stop by, say hello and have a cold beverage. Also, Amanda Plumbing is a sponsor this year for the famous All Horse Parade that will be on the 11th of this month. We will have employees and their family members on several of the wagons and we will be passing out candy.

With the changing temperatures that comes with this time of year, cool mornings and warm days, the high fluctuations cause hot water expansion tanks, contractions of foundations and other things. We are offering a $30 discount off of all installed water heaters this month when mentioning this newsletter. We install Bradford White and Navien Tankless heaters.

Also this month we are offering a $25 discount off of any of our battery backup sump pump systems! If you have any question about our specials this month, please give our office a call @ 740-369-5161 and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you!

I wish all of our loyal customers a safe and fun filled Labor Day and hope to see you at the Delaware County Fair!

First, because of our increased costs it is now necessary to increase our hourly rate by $5.00. We have not had a rate increase since 2005 and with gas prices and everything else we had no choice. We are still priced well under the Columbus based rooter and plumbing companies even though our cost to operate are the same as theirs.

On a positive note the special this month is our good looking line of Gerber faucets. These are a very reliable brand of American made faucets. If you mention this newsletter when scheduling your appointment, you will receive a $15.00 discount off all installed Gerber products.

We are not in a drought yet, but have had a lot of inquiries about water saving products, if you have any questions, our knowledgeable staff would be happy to answer then and discuss your options.

Also with winter coming in a few months this is a good time for preventative maintenance on problem sewers. We can either snake them or clean them with the high pressure water jet

As always we are happy to assist you with solutions to your plumbing, sewer and drain issues – both residential and commercial.

From the Amanda Plumbing Family to your family, we want to thank you for being our loyal customer.

See what one customer had to say:

I’m just like any other homeowner and I don’t worry about my plumbing until something goes wrong. Of course it doesn’t go wrong until the weekend or after hours. So I’ve done what others do, I’ve called plumbing companies out of the phone book.

The problem is that the phone book is not a reliable source of knowing whether the plumber or plumbing service will be reliable or professional. I never know whether or not I’ll get a fair price or even whether they’ll get the job done. But what I’ve learned to count on is a bill whether you like their work or not.

If we live in our houses long enough, most of us will ultimately have water heater problems, a clogged drain, or trouble with our tub and shower faucets. And while those who are DIY enthusiasts may enjoy tackling these challenges, what happens if there is a serious failure of bathroom plumbing and the kids can’t get ready for school tomorrow morning? Your home pluming guide may not be enough, as it wasn’t for me. You’re going to need plumber services.

And I would never tackle a shower installation on my own, or installing a garbage disposal. I just know that too many things can go wrong that a home plumbing expert would anticipate and avoid.

Like I say, I’ve fallen victim to using the first available drain plumber or city plumbing outfit I could get from the phone book. And I’ve had some real problems.

I’ve even had them come out, spend an hour using a drain snake in the sewer drain, just to pack up and say they don’t have cable long enough. And for my trouble, they did go ahead and leave me a bill. All this and my bathtub drain was still clogged.

So when I found a company that is reliable and gets the job done, I figured I’ve got to let people know. I finally found Amanda Plumbing Sewer & Drain in Delaware, OH. I’ve had Amanda work on my kitchen plumbing and install a new garbage disposal. I’ve even had them rework the sump pump in my basement and install a battery powered sump pump with alarm. And yes, I’m pretty sure they have a cable long enough for your sewer drain.

I can tell you that it really doesn’t matter to me whether I’m dealing with a toilet flush problem, or the need to replace a drain tile in the front lawn.

I’ll recommend Amanda Plumbing because they’re reliable and fast. They are availalbe 24 hours a day, and their plumbers are absolutely professional and clean up completely after their work. One of them brought towels and a bucket. He sopped up the water from the drain, put the towel in the bucket and carried the whole wet mess out of the house without a drop on the floor.

So if you’re looking to have someone fix toilet problems, fix water heater leaks, replace faucet parts and other plumbing fittings, or even deal with leak detection or drain and sewer cleaning, I can recommend plumbing services from Amanda Plumbing. – Phil, Delaware, Ohio
