Signs Your Water Line needs to be Repaired or Replaced

1. High water bill – If your bill suddenly jumps in price and gallon usage, you likely have a problem. Your water provider can be scheduled to come out to tell you if your leak is inside or outside your home for free. Amanda Plumbing can take you from there!
2. Water hissing heard at main shut-off valve – The most common place to spring a leak underground is just on the other side of your foundation wall. We call this the “Foundation Leak”. Usually fixed in just a few short hours, we will excavate near the foundation to replace the portion of your line penetrating the wall and add a protective sleeve around the pipe to prevent this from happening again. If your main valve needs replaced we will do that as a courtesy at no extra charge before buttoning everything back up and sealing the foundation inside and out.
3. Water puddling near the city shut-off in your yard – We call this one the “Tail Leak”. Another common weak point in your line. When the city taps their water line and sets the underground valve, they leave a a few feet of pipe sticking out on the house side of the valve to hook on to. This is called a “tail”. Connecting the city’s tail to a contractor’s service line leaves an unnecessary potential leak point underground that often becomes a problem after a decade or two, sometimes sooner. This is often the simplest leak to fix.
4. Water pooling/ soggy yard between street and house- Every time water runs through your water line , a minute vibration occurs. If your water line is buried against the sharp point of a rock underground, this vibration can wear a small pinhole in your line, causing a leak. Sometimes this leak shows above ground in the form of a perpetually wet area of your yard. Also a quick and simple fix for our crew.
